What are client instructions?
Client instructions are directions attached to a specific client, an API key or MCP client, telling it how to use the context repository it connects to. They're the client-side counterpart to source instructions, which do the same job for a data source instead of a client.
Why client instructions exist
Different clients often need different guidance on how to work with the same context repository. Client instructions give a workspace a place to set that guidance for a specific client directly, instead of relying on every user of that client to repeat it themselves.
