What is a sync?

A sync is a scheduled process that connects Qontext to external data sources like HubSpot, Google Drive, Notion, or Slack, and pulls selected data into the context repository. Each source has its own sync schedule, filters, and sync logs showing when syncs run, what they pulled in, and whether they succeeded.

Why do syncs exist?

Company context lives across many tools, and it changes constantly. Without syncs, someone would have to manually export data from each tool and re-import it whenever it changes, which is impractical and error-prone. Syncs remove that manual step: once a source is connected, syncs bring new and changed data into the context repository automatically, so agents always work from current information.

How do syncs work?

Setting up a sync connects a source account to the workspace. The first sync can take up to 12 hours for large datasets since it pulls in everything selected for the first time. After that, syncs only pull in what changed, so they run much faster.
Each source has its own filters, so a workspace can choose exactly which data to sync instead of pulling in everything the source account can access. Every source also has sync logs showing when syncs started and finished, whether they succeeded, what was skipped, and what triggered the sync. If a source doesn't have a native connector, the same data can reach the context repository through the API, MCP, or workflow tools like n8n or Make.
