Traceability is the ability to reconstruct, after the fact, what an agent did: which information it used to produce an answer, and what it changed in your shared knowledge. When agents both read from and write to a company's knowledge, traceability is what lets you check their work instead of trusting it blind.

You cannot tell what an agent used or changed

When an agent answers from a shared knowledge base, you get the answer but not its basis: which files it read, or whether it used a current document or a stale one. When agents also edit that knowledge, a file changes and no one can say what changed, when, or whether a person or an automated update did it. A wrong answer is then hard to explain, and a bad edit is hard to catch.

Qontext records both sides of the trail

Qontext keeps two records. Retrieval logs show which context each Client accessed, per Client and per file, so you can trace an agent's output back to the exact files it read. Version history records every version of a file with its source, whether a connected Source or a workspace member, and its timestamp, so you can inspect what a file looked like before a change and see where the change came from. Together they turn agent activity from something you trust into something you can check.
